Who Will Teach the Wisdom is a compelling account of the authors recent involvement preparing a small Special Operations team for a mission to Africa to eradicate a group of insurgents. The narrative begins in a remote jungle training camp deep within a remote rain forest in Puerto Rico, but has as its source the wisdom of Africa. There are no easy missions but this Special Forces mission was successful because it was a mission carried out in Africa using the wisdom of Africa as its Genesis. More important, unlike most previous counter-insurgency operations, no more insurgents succeeded in gaining a foothold in the tribal area in which the mission was carried out. This was because the same wisdom that was used in finding the insurgents was used in eradicating them. This is also a book about the authors journey back to Africa in search of the wisdom needed to ensure the success of the Special Operations mission. It is a search in which he unlocks for readers the fascinating mystery of what enabled the famed Selous Scouts, a Special Operations unit in which the author served for many years, to terrorize the terrorists to such an extent that they were too afraid even to mention the unit s name. They referred to its soldiers simply as skuz-apo, or those who have stolen our identity. Of greater interest, the author reveals the crucial role played by the tribes in the units astonishing success. Readers can accompany the author during the countless days and nights he spent huddled around cooking fires in the company of tribal elders in the uncompromising remoteness of the African bush trying to unlock the puzzle of how to gain the tribal support needed to win the Rhodesian bush war.

Thank you Tim for such a moving book that teaches the wisdoms of the African tribesman you met and learned and the ones of your own that you pass along in a way that one can eat, digest and assimilate...to be a better tributary. This is a Great Book. For once a Operator tells it like it really is in Combat. A Damn Honest Operator!
Highly recommend this book. Fully of comments that require reflection, which are tremendously useful. You will find yourself wanting got re-read it because you don't want to miss anything. It is not full of self praising stories.
The information in this book will be relevant for a very long time. I think anyone interested in military history or tactics will find new things and perspectives in this book.

This book makes you realise just how much we don't - and that it may not be a good idea.
Which explains a lot about the world we live in.
Not quite a war story but more a manual of how to counter terrorism in Africa. Will it work in other places of the world maybe not. But it gives some good hints on what one should be looking at.
This book has solid and culturally important content, and I suspect I would have given the hard copy five stars. The version has some minor issues which require correction. I suspect these issues stem from an automated scanning/publishing process. At several points throughout the books, the words seem out of order, and/or parts of sentences seem disjointed and are sometimes missing altogether. There is a particularly noticeable incident of this nature in Chapter 11, just after the author discusses the possibility of the pseudo-gang blowing its cover as terrorists.
As a whole, though, even the version has been worth the time and money I invested in it. I would highly recommend for military and non-military seekers of cross-cultural competency alike.
